Barker's Bar and Grill
Barker's among best bars

With all the taverns in Wisconsin, can you imagine being named among the 101 best? That's exactly what happened to Barker's Bar and Grill, on Second Street in Hudson, based on the fact it has "regulars who visit daily for beer" - which includes 17 tap and 14 bottled varieties - and has "good beer conversation." In "Great Wisconsin Taverns," author Dennis Boyer notes: "The regulars include a number of folks who travel far and wide on the brew pub circuit and like to drop in on the micro breweries when they can. . The open 'kitchen' behind the bar gives Barker's a snazzy modern diner feel that pulls in Minnesotans and others with tavern phobias." There is one proviso: "Some purists might insist that fresh-ground Guatemalan coffee, homemade pico de gallo salsa and a zillion appetizers on a well-stocked menu moves Barker's out of the tavern category." Co-owner Pete Foster, right, says the way his place is characterized is basically accurate. He is holding the book with restaurant managers Rob Knefelkamp, left, and Ben Wasmund.
