Daytime burglars hit
Burglars struck at two rural Hudson residences in broad daylight Monday.Sheriff Dennis Hillstead said the Kevin Henderson residence at 655 Hwy. 12 in the town of Hudson was entered between 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Henderson was away from his house, located near the Nor-Lake factory, for just a couple of hours when the burglary occurred, Hillstead said. Missing from the house are a handgun, VCR, TV, computer and jewelry. Peter Skinner, 577 Oak Drive, discovered that his house east of Hwy. 35 in the town of Troy had been burglarized when he returned home from work shortly before 5 p.m. Skinner told the sheriff's department that the doors of the house were locked when he and his wife left in the morning, but they were open when he returned. Jewelry, compact discs and a small amount of money was taken from the Skinner house. Neighbors reported seeing a suspicious truck in the area that day. Hillstead also reported that there have been numerous thefts of tools from house construction sites in recent weeks. He said homeowners can help prevent burglaries by getting to know their neighbors, forming neighborhood watch associations and reporting suspicious activity. Security alarms also help, he said.
