Historical Society commemorates Moffat, Hughes Victorian wedding
On Sunday, Dec. 5, the St. Croix County Historical Society will stage the reenactment of a Victorian wedding. This event will commemorate Victorian-era weddings and most specifically the marriage of Mary Moffat and Thomas Hughes in the Octagon House on Dec. 26, 1871. While the Society does not have enough information about the wedding of Miss Moffat and Mr. Hughes to stage a re-enactment of their ceremony, in tribute to them, the bride and groom re-enactors will be called "Miss Mary" and "Mr. Tom."The order of the wedding day is as follows: - Walk-through tour of the Octagon House, 1004 Third Street, to view wedding preparations, 1-2 p.m. - Wedding ceremony at the First Baptist Church, 309 Vine St., 2-3 p.m. - Refreshments and music at the Old Courthouse, 904 Third St., 3-5 p.m. Tickets are available at the following Hudson shops: etcetera and Lavender Thymes, both on Second St., and Linde's Hallmark in Plaza 94. One ticket provides admission to any or all of the December 5 events. Tickets purchased in advance are $7; they will be $8 at the door. Tickets may also be ordered by mail. Send a check payable to the St. Croix County Historical Society, 1004 Third St., Hudson, WI 54016. Mail orders must be received no later Monday, Nov. 29.
