Suspected overdose lands HHS student in hospital

A freshman boy suspected of suffering a drug overdose was taken from Hudson High School to the hospital by ambulance Friday morning.

Nancy Sweet, the Hudson School District's director of pupil services, said school officials became worried about the boy because he was acting like he might be under the influence of a drug and asked the school nurse to examine him. The nurse made the decision to contact St. Croix Emergency Medical Services to take the boy to Hudson Medical Center, Sweet said.

School administrators and Police-School Liaison Officer Ed Rankin are investigating the matter, according to Sweet.

She said that as far as she knows, the boy wasn't ever unconscious. Eyewitnesses said he walked to the ambulance.

It was another disturbing morning for school administrators. Half an hour before the freshman boy was taken to the hospital, four HHS students were involved in a two-vehicle crash on County U at Interstate 94.

The Hudson ambulance had just made a trip to the hospital in connection with the traffic accident when it was called to the school at 9:03 a.m.
