Oliver F. Campbell, 78
Oliver F. Campbell, 78, of Stillwater, Minn., died of cancer on Thursday, April 15, 1999, at his home.He was born March 3, 1921, in Chetek, to Orlie L. and Myrtle M. (Howard) Campbell. He was a long-time car salesman in the valley and an avid golfer. He served in the South Pacific and India in the U.S. Air Corps from 1940-45. He was a member of the Stillwater VFW, the Stillwater American Legion and the Bayport American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Walter; and his sister, Fay. He is survived by his wife of 51 years and best friend, Ellen "Susie"; his brother, Howard, of Fargo, N.D.; his sisters-in-law Donna and Chuck Pearson of River Falls, and Julie and Jim Holmes of Spicer; many nieces and nephews. Funeral was Monday, April 19, at First United Methodist Church, Stillwater. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the church, Lakeview Hospice and the American Cancer Society.
Alice V. Young, 73
Alice Verna (Score) Young, 73, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Montana.She was born Nov. 19, 1925, in Baldwin Township, the daughter of Allen and Anna Oaks Landaal. She attended Baldwin/Woodville High School. She single-handedly ran Mickey's Diner in St. Paul when she was only 16 years old. She also waitressed at the Hudson Harbor and the Country House in Hudson. She began working at Andersen Windows in 1969, where she remained until her retirement in 1987. She loved working where she could be with people. She married Marvin "Bud" E. Score in 1942. He died in 1981. She then married Richard J. Young in 1984 and they moved to Kalispell, Mont., in 1988. From that time on, she returned at least once a year to visit her family. Her hobbies included reading, singing, playing the organ, visiting with friends and family, decorating and shopping. She also loved cats, reading the Bible, sharing the Lord, children and bragging about her family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of the prayer chain and the Andersen Retirees Club. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Score. She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Young of Kalispell; her children: Vicki and Terrance Barker of Hudson, Daniel and Sally Score of Hudson, Douglas and Sandy Score of Oakdale, her step-children: Theresa Young of Menomonie, Anne Young of St. Paul, Carolyn Van Tassel of Forest Lake, Richard and Julie Young of Wilson, Christina Cunningham of Vadnais Heights, and William Young of White Bear Lake; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Margaret Wynveen and Helen Frederick, both of Baldwin; brothers: Alfred and Ferris Landaal of River Falls, Harris and Eleanor Albertson and Wilbert and Margaret Landaal, both of Hammond; sisters-in-law: Mandy Landaal of Baldwin and Pearl Albertson of River Falls. Funeral was Saturday, April 17, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson with the Rev. Fred Golke officiating. The organist was Jodell Krause and the vocalist was John Krause. Pallbearers were: Daniel Score, Douglas Score, Terrance H. Barker, Bryan Score, Ross Goulette, Ryan Goulette, Brian Neuberger, Matthew Score, Luke Score, Joseph Score, Terry A. Baker and Richard A. Young. Honorary pallbearer was Amy Score. Burial was in Willow River Cemetery in Hudson. Memorials may be sent to Richard J. Young, 237 Lakeshore Dr., Kalispell, Mont., 59901.
Wilbur V. Miller, 84
Wilbur "Webb" V. Miller, 84, died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.He was born in River Falls on May 1, 1914, the son of Fay and Gertrude Miller. He lived most of his life in River Falls. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Europe. In River Falls, he operated Miller Trucking until his retirement, when he spent many happy years in Amery. He will be sadly missed by his wife and best friend of 54 years, Marge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fay and Gertrude; his brothers: Belmer and Elery; his infant sister; and his son, Jim. He is survived by his wife, Marge; his daughter: Jan and Earl Duckel; grandchildren: Sara and Darin; daughter-in-law Roxanne; sister, Jean and Norman Johnson; sister-in-law Lora Miller; many other family members and friends. Funeral was Tuesday, April 20, at Cashman Mortuary, with the Rev. Larry McCann officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Steve Elam, John Foss, Nadine Johnson, Carl Elam, Kevin Schmit and Marlene Brunckhorst. Cashman Mortuary handled arrangements.
Timothy C. Stevens, 43
Timothy Charles Stevens, 43, died at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Ill., on Thursday, April 15, 1999, after a long illness.He was born in River Falls to Robert O. and Mildred L. Stevens on Aug. 3, 1955. He attended school in River Falls, graduating from River Falls High School and UW-River Falls with a double major in music. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists and enjoyed playing concerts in many places. He was staff organist at The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson for some time. His first love was playing church organs. He served as organist at the First Covenant Church of River Falls, the United Methodist Church of River Falls, Luther Memorial Church, River Falls Assembly of God, and churches in White Bear Lake, Woodbury and Stillwater, Minn. He also served at the Dayton's Bluff Methodist Church of St. Paul. At the time of his death he was church organist at the Northbrook Covenant Church of Northbrook, Ill., and was also production editor of graphic design at the Weeks Publishing Co. of Northbrook. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Mildred Stevens; one brother, Rob and his wife, Pat; one sister, Mary and her husband, Warren Wildes; two nieces: Missy and her husband, Jeremy Crayford, and Kimberly Stevens; and great niece and nephew Simone and Evan Crayford. Memorial services will be May 7 at Northbrook Covenant Church in Northbrook, with a private burial at a later date in River Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Building Fund of the First Covenant Church of Northbrook, Ill., and "Love in Action," a Christian ministry to people with HIV/AIDS.
Clarence E. Osen, 88
Clarence Edgar Osen, 88, of Roberts died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Fairview University Hospital, Minneapolis.He was born June 28, 1910, on a farm in the town of Martell to proud Norwegian parents, Marshall and Ida Osen. He was a hard worker who led by example and is remembered by many people in different ways. Some remember him as a proud American who served in the U.S. Army/Air Force as a radio operator during World War II. Friends around River Falls remember him as an avid pool player and craftsman who enjoyed making wooden baskets and macram‚ chairs. Friends in Canada remember him for his comradeship and adventurous spirit on an Alaskan cruise. His children remember his wise and outstanding example to follow. His in-laws remember him for extending a warm welcome to his home and family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember him for his warm hugs, playful nature and wonderful stories. He liked nothing better than being surrounded by his many grandchildren and telling an often-requested tale from his childhood. In later years, he suffered a heart attack. Several operations, including heart bypass, and the addition of a pacemaker/defibrillator gave him 9 more years and allowed him to enjoy Arizona sunshine and Clam Lake fishing. He was preceded in death by his brother, Hiram; and his sisters: Evelyn Halverson, Inez Gipford and Lillian Baar; and grandson Jason Osen. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Margaret (Owens); his children: Richard and Arlene of Winnipeg, Canada, Tom of Roberts, Carolyn and Jim Hartmon of Roberts, Cheryl and Dan Christiansen of Woodbury, Minn.; his grandchildren: Tom and Angie Osen, Jr., of North Richland Hills, Texas, Stacey of Lewisville, Texas, Debbie and Joe Murtha of Hammond, Brenda and Matt Woehrle of Egan, Minn, Monica and Brian Christiansen of Woodbury; great-grandchildren: James Murtha, Tanner and Peyton Osen and Jake Green; his sisters: Fern Anderson of Ellsworth and Pearl Jensen of River Falls; many friends throughout the United States and Canada. Funeral was Friday, April 16, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church. A private interment for the family was at Greenwood Cemetery. Cashman Mortuary handled arrangements.
Dolores M. Weschcke Dopkins, 80
Dolores M. Weschcke Dopkins, 80, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Rio Grande Regions Hospital, McAllen, Texas.She was born May 9, 1918, the daughter of Carl and Magdaline Weschcke in St. Paul. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Magdaline; and two sons: Roy and Charles. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Marvin; her children: Ann and Jerry Jensen, Joyce and Leo Schueller, Leo, Jerry, Ken and Betty; a daughter-in-law, Becky; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Carlola McRobbie; her brothers: Carl and Sandra Weschske, and Ernest and Sharon Weschske; her sister-in-law Doris Dopkins Lindquist; many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral was at St. Bridget Catholic Church on Thursday, April 15. Interment was in St. Bridget's Cemetery on Friday, April 16. Pallbearers were grandsons Tom Jensen, Rick Jensen, Tony Dopkins, Dan Dopkins, Jim Schueller and Shannon Scott. Cashman Mortuary handled arrangements.
Randolph O.B. Christopherson, 72
Randolph O.B. "Rany" Christopherson, 72, of Beldenville, died suddenly Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He was rushed to Regions after having entered the River Falls Area Hospital a few hours earlier.Rany was born July 16, 1926, the son of Otto and Inga (Jensen) Christopherson in the town of Gilman in Pierce County. He was baptized and confirmed and a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Beldenville. He grew up in the town of Gilman and attended Spring Valley High School, graduating with the class of 1944. On Dec. 3, 1947, he married Mildred "Millie" Nelson at Our Savior's parsonage. They farmed in the town of Gilman from 1944 until 1989 and raised a family of 10 children. Rany enjoyed many activities such as horseshoes, the card club, hunting and fishing, and singing camp fire songs. He played the piano, enjoyed dancing and poetry and also square danced for a while. He served on the Our Savior's Church Council as trustee. He and Millie were church custodians for the past 12 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, Otto and Inga; one brother, Canton Christopherson; two sisters: Olga Palmquist and an infant sister, Bertha; and a son-in-law, Vaughn Strand. Survivors include his wife, Millie, of Beldenville; his 10 children: Marlys and Kenneth Beissler of St. Paul, Rhoda and Rick Foley of Beldenville, Sharon and Larry Peterson of Ellsworth, Lanette and Bruce Place of Red Wing, Minn., Pauline and Roger Laughnan of Beldenville, Julie and Glenn Henthorne of N. St. Paul, Teresa and Craig Flynn of Hager City, Rodney Christopherson of Beldenville, Reed and Shari Christopherson of Bay City, and Neil and Wendy Christopherson of Beldenville. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Allen and Janet Christopherson of Red Wing, and Vernon Christopherson of Mendota Heights, Minn.; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation was Tuesday, April 20, from 2:30-6:30 p.m., at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Beldenville. The funeral followed at 7 p.m. at the church with the Rev. John Sutherland officiating. Music was provided by Organist Amy Holdorf with congregational singing. Burial was in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, Beldenville. Pallbearers were Rany's grandsons: Chad Peterson, Mike Peterson, Andy Place, Elliot Place, Nickolas Place and Luke Flynn.
