Many reasons to build high school on Cemetery Road

TO THE EDITOR:

As in the old nursery rhyme, "The time has come the walrus said to talk of many things; of shoes and ships and sealing wax and cabbages and kings."

On Monday night, May 3, we will be voting on whether to locate anew high school along Cemetery Road or out in Mann Valley.

These are a few of the things I have thought about when considering how to make the choice:

1. The Cemetery Road site provides 93 acres, which seems more than adequate. Compare this with the 40 acres that the present high school, plus Greenwood Elementary, now occupy.

2. The Cemetery Road site is adjacent to the city limits. Water and sanitary sewer hookup is available at a savings of several hundred thousand dollars, as compared to extending the services into Mann Valley.

3. Finally, locating a new high school in Mann Valley would lead to much further development. The City Council has already seen to it that a huge 24-inch sanitary sewer is poised to cross under County Highway M to service not only a high school in Mann Valley but all the area way out to County Highway F. We cannot save the best of our agricultural land by paving it over with roads and housing.

As a long-time farmer, I feel we need to make a good decision on May 3 to help retain the grand resources we have in Mann Valley.
