Magee powers Cats over ECM
Senior drills 2 homers, drives in 4 runs
Ryan Magee went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double and four RBI to lift the Wildcat baseball team to a 7-5 win over Eau Claire Memorial in the Cats' home opener at Wunrow Field last Friday. The win was just the second in the last 10 years for River Falls against Eau Claire Memorial. Magee's second home run of the game, a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh, broke a 5-5 tie and provided the margin of victory. Josh MacKinnon added an RBI double and scored two runs for the Wildcats while Jason Dinesen contributed a two-run single and scored once. Jason MacKinnon went the distance on the mound, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits while striking out six and walking just one. The Wildcat defense rose to the challenge and played an errorless game. After jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the first, the Cats trailed 4-3 in the third and 5-4 in the sixth before Magee stroked a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence to give River Falls the win. At Chippewa Falls on Monday, Josh MacKinnon hit a two-run homer to tie the score 6-6, but the Cardinals pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to take a 9-8 decision in the first game of a doubleheader. Chippewa Falls made it a sweep by winning the second game 14-1. See next week's Journal for the complete story.
