Gangs, youth violence given community focus

"To Be or To Wannabe: Drug Use, Gang Participation and Youth Violence in a Small Wisconsin Town" is the title of a paper by two UW-System graduate students. The small town they refer to: River Falls.

Concert at St. Bridget's Sound of music at St. Bridget

St. Bridget Catholic School put on its annual Spring Fine Arts Concert Friday night, featuring favorite movie songs. Above, from the "Sound of Music," 8th grader Amy Parno sings the part of Maria along with the Von Trapp children during "Do-Re-Mi." The four Von Trapp children shown are Sarah Matzek, Paul Cleveland, Kirsten Iehl and Lea Scheide. The concert was directed by instrumental teacher Ruth Ashwood, choir teacher Jodie Rubenzer and general music teacher Marcia Scheurman.

Showing controversial flag brings suspensions to high school students

Notification that a Confederate flag displayed on license plates, caps, T-shirts, belt buckles and notebooks can represent a racial "put down" prompted River Falls High School administrators to ban them.

Extra combustion added to fireworks

Two new sponsors will help pay for this July's River Falls Days fireworks. These latest sponsors are asking others to pitch in so the event is fully funded.
