Council passes 2000 budget:
The City Council unanimously passed a 1999 property tax levy of $2,405,442 at the Nov. 23 session. The $12,380,000 city budget for 2000 includes a 6% mill rate increase. Residents whose homes are valued at $100,000 will pay a $50 tax levy increase next year.



Putting our collective 'best foot forward'
Last January a group of local people participated in the 7th Annual "Walk for the Cure," sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Held at the Mall of America, the event helped raise funds in honor of two River Falls children: Lindsie Freeborn, a student at Westside Elementary School, and Mitch Frederick, a student at Rocky Branch Elementary School. Both have juvenile diabetes.



Service of Remembrance will be held this month
Families who have lost a child, regardless of age or cause, are invited to attend a Candlelight Service of Remembrance at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church.



St. Croix verdict orders NSP to pay nearly $4 million on farm stray voltage case
After hearing testimony for more than three weeks and deliberating four hours, a St. Croix County jury last week awarded a Deer Park dairy farm what may be the largest stray voltage judgment in Wisconsin history.



Toys being collected for local children
The River Falls community has a free meal program called the Tuesday Banquet which serves hot meals on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 110 N. Third St.
