Trucker dies from suicide gunshot

An over-the-road trucker apparently took his own life sometime last week at the Travel America truck stop east of Hudson.

Jimmie Tuma's funeral Dedicated St. Joseph volunteer dies

Jimmie J. Tuma, founding member and 34 year volunteer of the St. Joseph Volunteer Fire Department, was laid to rest Monday, Jan. 17, in Houlton Cemetery, Houlton. Services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Somerset, with pallbearers and an honor guard from the Somerset and St. Joseph Fire Departments. Tuma died Jan. 12 at the age of 68.

Coyotes have adapted to residential areas of county

Many members of the "Baby Boom" generation are familiar with the cartoon characters involving the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. The downtrodden Wile is forever devising ways to catch the speedy Road Runner and always fails. The Coyote hears the familiar "Beep-Beep" of the birds call as a reward for his futile efforts. All the action takes place somewhere in the desert Southwest.

United Way reaches $450,000 goal

The United Way of St. Croix County has reached its $450,000 goal in its first countywide campaign.

Warriors' defense too much for Raiders

The Hudson boys basketball team split a pair of games last week, beating Menomonie 65-43 Tuesday at home before losing Friday to first-place Rice Lake 50-36 on the road.
