Contractors began work on installing artificial turf at UW-River Falls’ Ramer Field this past Wednesday, July 30. The new turf is expected to be installed by Oct. 1, but the late start to the project has forced the UWRF and River Falls High School teams to move their August and September home games. The grandstand was full and people were lined up 8 to 10 deep along both foul lines for the long-awaited opening night at First National Bank of River Falls Field Friday, June 13. An estimated crowd of 2,000 people turned out for the historic first baseball game at the new ballpark between the River Falls Fighting Fish amateur team and the American Legion Post 121 team. The grandstand at the new First National Bank of River Falls Field at Hoffman Park will be filled for opening night Friday, June 13, when the River Falls Fighting Fish and the America Legion Post 121 teams take the field against each other. The evening celebration will also include pre and postgame live music by Chris Silver on the plaza, a ceremonial first pitch and the National Anthem sung by the St. Croix Chordsman Barbershop Quartet.
