Two women were taken to the hospital Wednesday, Aug. 30 after their vehicle collided with a semi-tractor trailer in the town of Ellsworth. Pierce County Sheriff's deputies were notified of the crash at 11:43 p.m., which occurred at the intersection of Highway 10 and 610th Street. Initial investigation indicates a 2014 Honda CRV, driven by 73-year-old Sharon Ann Zielke of Glidden, failed to yield the right of way to a 2014 Freightliner operated by 66-year-old Steven J. Parson of Hammond, causing the Freightliner to strike the Honda.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding a man who fled from police Thursday, Aug. 31. Deputies recognized a vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 63 near 730th Avenue Thursday, operated by 32-year-old Brian Tschida of rural Prescott. Tschida has a warrant out for his arrest. Deputies became involved in a vehicle pursuit after Tschida failed to stop when deputies tried to pull him over.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) branches from Pierce and St. Croix counties and Washington County (Minn.) invite the public to a summer picnic 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30 at Prospect Park (511 Wisconsin St., Hudson). NAMI is a grassroots organization which strives to improve the quality of life for people whose lives are affected by mental illness. Its purpose is to provide support, to educate and to empower individuals and families, to promote public understanding of mental illness in order to combat stigma, and to advocate at all levels of government.
Trim-Bel Valley Dairy on Pierce-St. Croix Road near Spring Valley welcomed thousands of visitors to the 36th annual St. Croix County Farm City Day Saturday, Aug. 19. The farm, owned and operated by Jim and Lanette Harsdorf, along with their youngest son, Justin, welcomed visitors with hay rides, farm tours, a petting zoo, cheese curds with lunch, vendors and of course, ice cream.

ELLSWORTH—The first day of the Pierce County Fair saw spotty showers and autumn-like temperatures, but that didn't stop the enthusiasm of fair goers Thursday, Aug. 10 in Ellsworth. Funeral services have been announced for Prescott Police Chief Gary Krutke, who died Saturday, Aug. 5 at Regions Hospital after battling cancer. According to his obituary listed on the O'Connell-Benedict Funeral Home website (formerly Hill Funeral Home), funeral services for Krutke will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16 at Prescott High School (1010 Dexter St., Prescott). A burial with full military honors will take place at a later date at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla.
At about 10:16 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, Pierce County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene of a single motorcycle crash in the area of N3880 County Road in the town of Diamond Bluff. A 1998 Honda Shadow operated by Stillwater resident Jon Theodore Fila, 41, was traveling southbound on County Road O when it reportedly left the roadway, entered the ditch, overturned and ejected Fila, who was transported to Red Wing Mayo with undisclosed injuries. Ellsworth Fire and First Responders, and Red Wing Ambulance assisted Pierce County Sheriff's Office at the scene.
A Prescott man has died as a result of injuries received in a Sunday, Aug. 6 car crash in the town of Oak Grove, confirmed a hospital spokesperson Tuesday. Michael J. Simones, 60, died Monday, Aug. 7 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he had been airlifted after his vehicle rolled over near 640th Avenue and 1000th Street at approximately 1:04 p.m. the previous day.
