New Richmond business owner, farmer and entrepreneur Rob Stafsholt announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for District 29 to the Wisconsin Assembly.
The Republican District 29 primary election is set to take place on Sept.12, with the winner to face off against the Democrat candidate in the upcoming November election.
Stafsholt will be running his campaign on a number of key issues including:
- Lower property taxes. "As a farmer and real estate owner, I realize how crucial it is to have a fair property tax system. It isn't right to continually raise property taxes without measures of accountability."
- Advocacy of property rights. "I believe that if you and your family have worked hard to obtain the American Dream of owning your own home and/or land, that you should not be penalized for your accomplishments through un-uniform zoning and taxation."
- Insuring that all students have access to a quality education. "Though property taxes speak directly to the funding of our schools, I don't believe a top quality education is the result of throwing as much money as possible into our education system. A quality education is much more than spending as much money on education that can be tolerated by tax payers. Again, there needs to be accountability."
- Advocacy of our personal rights and freedoms. "We have a long running tradition of hunting, fishing, trapping...outdoor activities that build strong families and life-long friendships. I will fight to maintain such rights and freedoms. The outdoors is a major part of my family's heritage as well as a personal passion."
- Business and economic development. "As a small business owner and farmer, I am fully aware of the importance of developing strong small businesses in our District that provide employment opportunities as well as needed products and services. I will also work hard to keep current businesses located here."
- Fight against drugs. "Methamphetamine is destroying families throughout the District in epidemic proportions. I will work with our law enforcement officials on drug prevention measures."
A small business owner, Stafsholt is the Manager of Landmark Mortgage Company's office in New Richmond. He was raised in Erin Prairie Township near New Richmond and currently resides on the family farmsite one mile from where he grew up.
Rob, along with his father, farms 1,000 acres near his residence.
"Area residents can be assured that I'll be applying the common sense real-world lessons I've learned from being a small business owner, loan officer, and farmer in my work as your Representative," he said.
