Swimming & diving: Wildcat swimmers shine at state meet

Junior Logan McLaughlin posted a pair of top ten finishes and senior Huck Boles placed sixth in diving to lead River Falls representatives at the WIAA Division 2 State Swimming and Diving Championships Friday, Feb. 16, at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium in Madison.

McLaughlin finished fourth in the 200 yard freestyle and ninth in the 100 freestyle while teaming up with senior John Augustin, sophomore Seth Larsen and senior Andrew Richardt for a ninth place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.

McLaughlin turned in a season-best time of 1 minute, 47.25 seconds in the 200 freestyle to place fourth, the highest finish for a Wildcat at state since current head coach Eric Emerson won the 100 freestyle and placed third in the 50 freestyle in 2009.

McLaughlin followed up his trip to the podium in the 200 free with a ninth place time of 49.65 seconds in the 100 free.

Augustin, Larsen, Richardt and McLaughlin went on to earn a ninth place time of 3:23.98 in the 400 freestyle relay. Augustin also finished 13th in the 50 freestyle in 22.85 seconds.

Boles capped his high school career with a sixth place score of 337.85 in the diving competition after placing 11th at the 2017 meet as a junior.

Monona Grove captured its fourth straight Division 2 state team title with a total of 330 points while Edgewood was a distant second with 191. River Falls finished 14th in the 35-team field with 59.
