A multi-million dollar reinvestment into Andersen Corp.’s Cottage Grove facility - Renewal by Andersen - got under way Tuesday following a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the 125,000-square-foot expansion.

The Bayport-based window and door manufacturer is spending over $45 million to grow its Cottage Grove and North Branch locations, and as many as 200 new jobs are expected at the Cottage Grove facility. About 100 jobs will be added at the Bayport plant.

“To have this type of expansion is a huge shot in the arm of the Cottage Grove economy and the state economy that will be felt for years to come,” said Mayor Myron Bailey.

The expansion in the Cottage Grove Business Park will be both manufacturing and office space, and will increase the size of the operation by more than 50 percent.

During the ceremony, Andersen Corp. CEO Jay Lund acknowledged Renewal’s 20th anniversary and said the groundbreaking was a testament to the company’s commitment to growth.

“It’s an exciting day for the Andersen Corporation, and it’s a really important milestone in the evolution of the Renewal by Andersen division,” he said. “And on the anniversary, I think it’s fitting that we’re breaking ground on the first major expansion that we’ve seen going back to when we first opened.”

Lund said Renewal has “experienced extraordinary growth” over the last several years. It is in the midst of rolling out its new line of windows, the 100 Series. The windows are made of the company’s Fibrex composite material that is two times stronger than vinyl.

The expansion at Renewal by Andersen was made possible, in part, by a $1.5 million grant from the Minnesota Job Creation Fund, and $500,000 from the Minnesota Investment Fund will be put toward both expansions. Lund said the state funding was “instrumental” in allowing the project to move forward.

Construction is expected to be complete by April 2016.

“I’m just happy to be a part of this and have the support from the company and the community,” said Paul Delahunt, president of Renewal by Andersen. “I’m looking forward to when the real shovels get to work.”

Renewal by Andersen is located at 9900 Jamaica Ave., Cottage Grove.
