Foley United, a global manufacturer of engineered grinders for the golf and turf industry, recently replaced aging fluorescent lighting with new energy efficient LED fixtures at their production facility in River Falls. The new LED lighting will significantly increase equipment life, reduce maintenance costs and drastically improve light levels in the facility.

"The increased light levels and light quality will provide a much improved environment for our employees," President and CEO Brad Kautzer said.

The company received an incentive of $4,160 from River Falls Municipal Utilities and an additional $4,160 from Focus on Energy to help cover installation costs. It's estimated that the lighting upgrade will reduce Foley United's electricity use by more than 90,000 kilowatt-hours annually. Along with providing significant cost savings, this will have an environmental impact equivalent to removing 10 cars from the road, planting over 14 acres of trees or refraining from burning over 25 tons of coal each year.

"The energy and maintenance savings are icing on the cake," Kautzer said.

LED technology offers better quality lighting that lasts longer and uses less energy. As the technology continues to advance, the cost of upgrading to LED lighting continues to drop.
