Dunn Brothers in Hastings is one of over 60 locations potentially hit by a data breach that took place during the month of January, according to a press release distributed by the coffee shop’s business partner, North Country Business Products, Inc.
North Country caught wind of suspicious activity in some networks on Jan. 4. A hired third-party forensic investigator found that someone used malware to collect debit and credit card information Jan. 3-24.
At this time, North Country encourages customers to monitor statements and credit reports, and report any suspicious activity to their bank.
In a statement made by Dunn Brothers President Kim Plahn, customers who used LevelUp to pay for products were not affected by this incident. The breach was made through the point-of-sale system, which LevelUp transactions are not processed through, according to Plahn.
Dunn Brothers has over 55 locations in Minnesota, most of which were affected by the breach. Locations in Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin were also affected, according to the press release.
