Hudson, WI - December 1, 2019, Heywood, Cari & Anderson, S.C., a long-standing law firm in the Hudson area since 1945, is pleased to announce the partnering of Philip A. Helgeson, Esq. and Kevin M. Urbik, Esq. The firm was established by John D. Heywood in June of 1945 with a sole practice above the drug store in downtown Hudson, Wisconsin. In 1955, Mr. Heywood welcomed Kenneth Hayes and William Hess to join the firm giving rise to Heywood, Hayes & Hess. Mr. Hess left the partnership in 1959, and the firm Heywood & Hayes practiced until 1974. Mr. Heywood practiced alone until Samuel R. Cari joined the firm in 1977. Their partnership existed until Mr. Heywood’s death in 2001. Despite his passing, Mr. Heywood’s name remains a part of the firm which he started 75 years ago. The firm continued under the name Heywood & Cari until Christopher M. Anderson became a partner in 2002. The firm continued to grow when Ryan C. Cari became a partner in 2005, Philip A. Helgeson joined the firm as an associate in 2007 and Kevin M. Urbik joined the firm as an associate in 2012. Philip A. Helgeson graduated from the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota with his Juris Doctorate degree and was admitted to the Wisconsin State Bar in 2004 and to the US District Court Western District of Wisconsin in 2008. Attorney Helgeson is also licensed to practice law in the States of Minnesota (2014) and Nevada (2005), and holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Minnesota (2001). Attorney Helgeson practices out of the firm’s Prescott location and is actively involved in many community events for the City of Prescott. Attorney Helgeson also serves as the City Attorney for the City of Prescott, Wisconsin, and participates in the Pierce County Free Legal Clinic. Kevin M. Urbik graduated from Hamline University School of Law, Minnesota with his Juris Doctorate degree and was admitted to the Wisconsin State Bar in 2010. He is also licensed to practice law in the State of Minnesota (2011), and holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology, psychology and criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls (2006). Attorney Urbik has a published article in NBI, National Business Institute, June 2015, “Top QDRO Mistakes Attorneys Make – and How to Avoid Them!” He is actively involved as a member of several professional associations and with local community groups in the City of Hudson.
