Hidden Greens Golf Course broke ground Oct. 24 for their new banquet facility that is scheduled to open in fall of 2018. The event hall will offer seating for up to 300 people with a view of the golf course.

"It's something we get to share this place with people year round instead of just a niche of golfers," said Denise Dodge, general manager of Hidden Greens.

The 7,000-square-foot event venue will have space for 50 to 300 guests. The current venue has room for up to 50 guests. The new space will feature a full kitchen for catering, a full bar and bartender, men's and women's bathrooms, an outdoor patio and gas firepit.

Hidden Greens has been a family owned public golf course for more than 40 years. Dodge and her brother Jason Swanson are the third generation to run the golf course.

Dodge said that there has been discussion about building an event space for about five years so it is exciting to see it actually progress.

"It's a new avenue for us to go down ... but it's nerve-racking in the fact that it is exciting," she said.

Hidden Greens has a clubhouse that has been used for smaller events, but the new venue will allow them to host much larger events. Over the years, Hidden Greens has used a tent for larger events. Dodge said that people like the atmosphere of the golf course, the scenery, the quietness of the area and watching the wildlife. They eventually decided that they could offer those aspects of hosting an event year-round by building a facility. That way, they wouldn't have to worry about weather either.

The new banquet facility will be a new building with patio seating and fire pits. Dodge said that they plan to put in some sort of water feature for the landscaping as well.

The banquet hall will be large enough for weddings. It will have a bridal suite in the new facility as well as a few ceremony sites on the property. However, in addition to weddings, Dodge said that the space will be perfect for class reunions, community events and more.

Hidden Greens is at 12977 200th St. E., Hastings.
