With five kids between them, sisters Shannon Cohen and Katie Anderson know just how much stuff can accumulate with a family, and how expensive it can all be.

That's why they've teamed up to start St. Croix Kids Consignment, a business with two consignment sales a year for all things kids, to helps parents clean house and stock up.

"We're just two moms who are looking to do the same thing they are really," Anderson said.

The first sale will be three days of shopping Oct. 25-27 at White Eagle Golf Club in Hudson.

Cohen and Anderson said the sale gives parents a chance to sell an old size as kids move up to a new one, or stock up on double of everything for the grandparents' house.

The two considered garage sales at first, but decided they wanted something on a larger scale.

Anderson has participated in consignment sales before, and knows how it all goes.

"I've always kind of looked to sell my kids' items that way," she said.

The consignment sales, one in the fall and one in the spring, are open to the entire community to consign or shop.

"We like the idea because it involves other families," Cohen said.

Items can be consigned at any time, they said, and St. Croix Kids is still accepting consignments for the upcoming sale. Currently they have 30-40 consigners signed up.

Consigned items are kept at the consigner's home until the day before the sale when everything will be dropped off for set up during a happy hour drop off.

Anderson said the sale will have a retail setting, with everything well-organized by size and items and clothing spread out on hangers.

All consigned items are checked to make sure they work and are in good condition.

"So when people come to shop they know that they're buying quality items," Anderson said.

Thousands of items will be available, Cohen said, for newborns up through middle schoolers.

"This is going to be a pretty big sale," she said. The two wanted to keep the sale local, drawing from Hudson and its surrounding communities.

The both said they are looking forward to meeting more people through the St. Croix Kids Consignment.

"I'm looking forward to meeting other moms, and dads too," Cohen said.
