New Anytime Fitness owners plan to take gym to 'next level'

Helping people get into shape has been a deeply-embedded part of Gabi and Jacek Kozdroj's lives for more than decade combined.

Gabi teaches Zumba classes and spent nearly three years managing a St. Paul Anytime Fitness location, where Jacek, her husband, worked as a personal trainer for 10 years.

When the Bielenberg Drive Anytime location appeared on the market earlier this summer, the Woodbury couple seized on the opportunity to own a franchise closer to their home of 12 years.

The Kozdrojs are inviting the public to help them celebrate their new roles as the gym's owners with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 7.

As the new owners, Gabi Kozdroj said she and her husband hope to continually enhance their offerings and equipment.

Since the transaction finalized Sept. 25, the couple has so far transformed the interior aesthetics to what Gabi describes as more of a spa environment.

"(The) previous owner has done a great job and we're going to take it to the next level," she said.

The additions and changes, Kozdroj said, are likely to continue. They have been collecting members' suggestions and input on a chalkboard in the entrance.

Some of requested features the Kozdrojs offer include comfort features like a vending machine selling snacks and water, keyed lockers, towel service and complimentary bananas and mints.

Others asked for updated equipment.

Among the new additions to the location's cache of equipment is a hex-bar, similar to a regular barbell but with a hexagonal shape users stand inside while lifting.

Another newly-added device is the landmine, a floor stand with a swivel attachment for barbells that allows users to lift in an arch motion rather than straight upward.

The Kozdrojs will also offer new classes at a studio above Benassi Chiropractic, 731 Bielenberg Drive, across the street from Anytime Fitness.

Jacek, a ballroom dance instructor of more than 10 years, will offer Saturday evening classes this winter, starting Nov. 11, teaching styles like the foxtrot, swing, waltz and rumba. Another round of classes could be added to the roster depending on how many people register.

Gabi said she will offer Zumba classes at the same studio starting this week.

The classes are open to both Anytime members and non-members. Participants can purchase a single class or pay a monthly fee to attend the classes.
