One couple and two individuals shared the distinction Friday of being named Pierce County’s Most Admired Senior Citizen.

Ellsworth residents John and Phyllis Beastrom, Elmwood resident Donna Lien, and Norman Canfield of Ellsworth received the honor Aug. 9 during Senior Day at the Pierce County Fair.

Fair Manager Ann Webb, who launched the Most Admired Senior Citizen award program several years ago, said it was rooted in the notion that age has no limit on service to communities.

“We need to show that value to our kids,” she said. “You can still give back even a little bit.”

The Beastroms’ contributions include serving on the Ellsworth Senior Center Board and participating with the Golden Age Singers group.

Canfield, a Korean War veteran, was recognized for his service to the Pierce County Food Pantry and his roles with the American Legion, which include serving on the honor guard and as chaplain.

Lien, a longtime member of the Elmwood banking community, served on the Zoning Board of Appeals and established a scholarship for Elmwood High School graduates — among other accomplishments.
