On Friday, Oct. 11 the Hunger Prevention Council of Pierce County celebrated its 20th anniversary with a ribbon cutting for its newly remodeled facility.

The council was awarded a $127,000 Community Facility Loan from U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development to purchase and remodel the Pierce County Food Pantry. The award provided a permanent location with an outdoor space for garden beds and community nutrition education.

Local and state officials attended the celebration.

The celebration gave the council’s executive director, Jennifer Thatcher, an opportunity to speak about what the council does and to thank the community and Pierce County Human Services for their funding support.

“I’m excited about how we can expand our program,” Thatcher said.
