Farmington’s recognition of International Day of Prayer will take place from noon to 1 p.m. May 5 at Lighthouse God's Food, 625 Heritage Way. The theme for this year’s event is Wake Up America.

Farmington resident Aundreya Edwards resurrected the event locally last year after several years with no events.

“I see the value, and the power of prayer,” Edwards said. “It is something that is so simple to do, but yet is something that really can make such a huge impact. I have seen prayer move in incredible ways, and that is why I wanted Farmington to be able to have such a special event.”

The Farmington event will feature “speakers, musicians and prayer warriors,” Edwards said.

For her work last year, Edwards, a senior at Christian Life Academy, was invited to take part in last fall’s National Day of Prayer Symposium in Colorado. She was the youngest participant.

National Day of Prayer was established by a joint resolution of congress and signed into law by President Truman in 1952. It is recognized the first Thursday in May each year.
