The holiday season is full of hustle and bustle, and that was no exception at the Winter Wonderland Carnival and Rink Celebration. For two hours Sunday, Dec. 2, HealthEast Sports Center in Woodbury was packed with families enjoying carnival games, choral performances from local schools and skating at the outdoor rink.

Shannon Beard and Ava Huseboe, both 12, took a break from skating to warm up by the fire pit. Beard approved of the festivities.

"So far I'm having a very good experience," she said.

On the upper floor of the sports center, Luca Iannazzo, 8, made the rounds at the carnival games. Iannazzo's father, Dominic, said they heard about the event from some hockey parents and thought it sounded like fun.

"It's like a hockey family get-together," he said.

The parks and recreation event was sponsored by Woodbury Kids, an organization that aims to make it easier for parents to decide which community clubs, classes and services are best for their kids.

"We're really excited to be partnering with Parks and Rec to bring this fun event to the community," Stacey Robertson of Woodbury Kids said.

Robertson said the organization is trying to break into more events in the city. This year, Woodbury Kids sponsored a kids' prize during Woodbury Days and was a sponsor for the Feed My Starving Children MobilePack event in October. It will also host an expo Jan. 12 at Lake Middle School to serve as a "one-stop shop to discover all things kids in the community."
