For the fourth year in a row, the Friday Memorial Library will host the Local Authors Showcase, which will feature readings from Jim Guhl, Gail Wallach Buell and Marilyn Jess.

The event will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. The event will also include readings from several members of the Willow River Writers group, which was founded five years ago and includes members from western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota.

"We expect to have a good variety of works sampled on this year's program including novels, short stories, memoirs and poetry," said Chuck Rang, a four-year member of the Willow River Writers and coordinator of this year's showcase.

Guhl will kick off the program by reading from his first novel, "Eleven Miles to Oshkosh," which was published by the University of Wisconsin Press last October, and answering questions from the audience.

Other readers will include Marilyn Jess, author of "The Divine Comedy 2.0," her retelling of Dante's classic, and Gail Wallach Buell, whose first romance, "Just Something in the Wind," was published earlier this year.

Last year the Willow River Writers published the "Willow River Writers Anthology 2018," which sold out its first two printings by the end of 2018. The organization ordered another printing of the anthology to make sure that interested readers can buy a copy. Copies of other books on the program will also be available for purchase.

The Willow River Writers meet the first and third Tuesday of the month at the New Richmond Civic Center. Anyone interested in writing is invited to join for gentle critiques and encouragement. Some members of the group have published their first pieces after getting involved with the Willow River Writers.
