The Friends of the Hammond Community Library recently started a "Stair Fundraiser" with a goal of raising $1,000 to help support events and activities at the library.

As money is raised, the Friends will paint the stairs and adorn them with Dr. Seuss quotes. If you've stopped by the Hammond library recently you may have seen that a couple of steps have already undergone the transformation.

Although the transformation has already begun, the Friends still need the community's help. Donations large ($50 to sponsor a step) or small can be placed in the collection box at the base of the stairs at the library, the front desk, or any event where a Friends of the Library donation box is present, such as the Baldwin Farmers Market (the organization is present the first Saturday of each month), book sales, the group's Fall Art Auction and Fun Day (which takes place at the end of September) and the Burger Night at Parkside Restaurant, which is scheduled for Oct. 7.
