Skoolie, the charismatic, psychedelic colored school bus that has served as a traveling prom dress boutique and mobile classroom, will deliver free dinner to folks this summer.

Skoolie Family Fun Nights run 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays at Royal Oaks Elementary in Woodbury, Tuesdays at Newport Elementary, Wednesdays at Pullman Elementary in St. Paul Park and Thursdays at Armstrong Elementary in Cottage Grove.

The events are sponsored by the nonprofit SoWashCoCares, District 833 Community Education and South Washington County Schools. Their Summer Packs Program provides food to kids who may go hungry during the summer, when they don't have access to their school's nutrition services.

Those who aren't in need of a free meal are encouraged to bring their kids for face painting, karaoke, games and activities.  Police and fire vehicles will also make an appearance.

Cheryl Jogger of SoWashCoCARES also wants to remind folks of the District 833 free summer meals program. While dinner is on Skoolie, kids 18 and under can get free breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday at Park High School.

“Basically it’s free breakfast, lunch and dinner through the summer,” Jogger said.

At Park, breakfast will be served between 8-9 a.m. Lunch will be available between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

The program runs through Aug. 23. Adults can get breakfast for $2.30 and lunch for $5. Meals must be paid for with cash.

Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Newport Elementary School will also serve free breakfast and lunch Mondays-Thursdays, July 8-Aug. 1.
