A motorcycle memorial ride for Ben Kopp, a U.S. Army ranger killed in duty, will run Friday and Saturday, July 26-27, and riders can expect a warm welcome in Red Wing.
This is the first time in about 10 years the ride will come here.
"They have historically had difficulty at lunch stops, hosting 200 people, so Red Wing is taking care of them. They are eating lunch at the Elks," Jane Drazkowski of Red Wing said.
Red Wing Arts is making a banner to welcome riders, she said. Businesses are helping with parking.
The ride will start with a silent auction and Italian-style buffet 6-10 p.m. July 26 at Bogarts Entertainment Center, Apple Valley. Event registration continues the following day at 8 a.m., with the 150-mile ride starting, at 11 a.m. Cost is $20 per person.
A pig roast follows the ride, which ends back at Bogart's.
The memorial ride is an official HOOAH event. Kopp's mother, Jill Stephenson, is a member of HOOAH Inc., an organization that supports veterans, active service members and their families.
According to an event flier, the memorial ride has raised more than $300,000 since 2009. Those funds have gone to individual veterans and various organizations including Beyond the Yellow Ribbon.
