The Minnesota State Fair is over, but for those suffering withdrawal symptoms, there's the Fall Festival at St. Rita Catholic Church.

The annual church fete runs Sept. 13-15 at 8694 80th St. S., in Cottage Grove. It opens 3 p.m. Friday. The public is welcome.

It shouldn't be hard to spot, not with the inflatable slide and the Scrambler, Tornado and Bear-a-Fair carnival rides.

Saturday’s events include a 5k, 4k and 1k run/walk, registration at 8 a.m., race at 9 a.m. And it looks as though the local chicken lobby made a convincing case to the church, since a pig roast has replaced the traditional Saturday night poultry dinner. Tickets to the pig roast are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Also new this year is the Bean Bag Challenge, which starts 11 a.m. Saturday. Teams can still sign up for $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

The festival also will feature food trucks, bingo, a farmers market, beer garden and silent auction. The bluegrass band Ladies and Gents plays 7 p.m. Saturday. For the faithful, there's the polka Mass at 5 p.m. Saturday.
