It's almost time to grab the dog and the family for a walk. On Saturday, May 18, Animal Ark will hold its third annual 3K walk starting at the shelter, located at 2600 Industrial Court.

Along with the walk, Animal Ark will host a wide range of activities for everyone in the family. Food trucks, live music, vendor booths, games, a silent auction and more will be available for fun in efforts to raise money for the shelter. Animal Ark will also offer 25% off on adoptions made that day, with the exception of kittens and puppies.

Money donated to Animal Ark will help supply the resources the shelter needs to stay running. Registration is required for all ages. Ages 16 and older cost $30, while 15 and under are $20. Ages 4 and under are free. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

About Animal Ark

Animal Ark is a no-kill animal shelter located in Hastings, currently assisting over 100 animals in finding new homes.

Dogs and cats come to Animal Ark from all walks of life. Surrendered animals, animals from kill shelters and strays all come to the shelter. With a surgery room on-site and a contract veterinarian that visits every week, Animal Ark is able to take care of sick animals that some shelters can't.

"There is a person for every cat or dog," Paul Hagen, Animal Ark board member, said. "We act as the connection for the animals to find that person."

Animal Ark currently houses just over 20 dogs and 80 cats at the shelter, and provides temporary homes to more animals through foster care. Supplies to take care of the animals at the shelter and in foster care are funded through donations.

The shelter is always looking for more volunteers to work with the animals onsite or foster them in loving homes. For more information on how to become a volunteer or foster for Animal Ark, visit, or call 651-772-8983.

Animal Ark is open noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
