COLFAX - Lightning and heavy rain forced the cancellation of the Ellsworth-Colfax prep football game Friday at Bjurquist Field.
The game got underway but was immediately delayed due to lightning. WIAA rules state any game stopped by lightning must be delayed 30 minutes until such lightning is gone from the area. Several other weather delays followed until it was decided by Ellsworth and Colfax coaches and officials to call the game off entirely.
On Twitter later this evening it was reported that EHS head coach Clair Austin said the game will not be rescheduled. As non-conference game, the match-up has no bearing on either team's playoff chances, which almost entirely are due to conference record.
The Ellsworth-Colfax contest wasn't the only local prep football game affected by Friday's stormy and rainy weather. Several games were delayed and resumed and others (like Mondovi-Durand for example) pushed back to Saturday.
Prescott managed to get its game in with St. Croix Falls (the Cardinals were 42-6 winners) in SCF while Spring Valley downed Elmwood/Plum City 20-6 in Spring Valley.
