A free community Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, is in the works again at the United Methodist Church. The planning has begun and the call for volunteers is under way, according to coordinator Karrie Hamilton Williamson.

For more than five years, the church has offered its fellowship hall, and local businesses have ensured enough food. This year’s meal will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, 615 W. 15th St. The meal includes roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, vegetables and pie. The meals are free and open to the community.

Delivery of meals to those unable to come to the church is an important part of the day. They will be made from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you volunteer to drive, you must know the Hastings area. Volunteer drivers must arrive at 11 a.m. to fill the containers.

Volunteers are needed to cook at 8:30 a.m., set up the dining area at 12:30 p.m., and assist guests with drinks and food, and then help with the cleanup after dinner.

If interested in volunteering, coming as a guest or making a donation, call Hamilton Williamson at 651-253-1256.
