Black Dirt Theater will begin preparing for its summer musical production of "Mary Poppins" with auditions starting this week.

Auditions for the show will be held: 6-9 p.m. May 25 for adults at Hastings High School; 6-9 p.m. May 26 for adults at Hastings High School; 5:30-8:30 p.m. June 1 for kids at the Hastings High School; 6-9 p.m. June 2 for adults at the Hastings Arts Center; and June 3 will be call backs at the Hastings Arts Center.

All audition slots are 40 minutes with time for singing, dancing and showing your personality on stage. Audition sign-ups are available and can be found by visiting It is Black Dirt Theater's intent that each audition will be as fun and relaxed as they can be. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to audition for the show, which will be directed by Aimee Lane, who co-directed “Wizard of Oz” last summer with Black Dirt Theater.

In the script for "Mary Poppins" there are 18 named and featured characters that will be included in the show. However, in true Black Dirt Theater fashion several parts will be created to fill out other dancing and ensemble roles so this will be a great community show. In addition to the cast Black Dirt Theater is also always looking for people to be in the pit for the musical. Tickets are on sale for "Mary Poppins" It will run at: 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 28-29; 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30; 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 2-3; 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6.
