Research shows that the practice of meditation and mindfulness reduces stress, relieves pain, helps mental health conditions and teaches people to live in and enjoy the moment.

We'll explore these concepts and put them into practice with a two-part workshop led by Chantal Doriott, a certified instructor. The first session is an introduction to the benefits of mediation, plus practice. The second session builds on meditative practice with an introduction to mindfulness. You can register for both of these sessions online or at the library's front desk.

Session 1: An Introduction to Mindfulness. Monday, March 11, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Mindfulness helps bring awareness to what you are experiencing through your senses, thoughts and emotions. Learn daily practices and gain a new sense of curiosity.

Session 2: An Introduction to Meditation. Monday, March 25, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Meditation doesn't mean you sit quietly, trying to not think. Rather, it's an exploration of your thoughts and a gift you give yourself. Learn practices that can bring peace and a sense of calm.

Teen Night After Hours, Friday, March 8, 6-8:30 p.m. It's karaoke after hours at the library! Teens pick the music; librarians provide the equipment. Plus we'll open up the kitchen for cupcake wars and serve a taco bar. End the night with a game of extreme hide and seek. Register and get a permission slip at the youth services desk.
