The Front Porch Players cast are ready to entertain audiences with six shows of "On Golden Pond."

Playwright Ernest Thompson wrote "On Golden Pond" in 1979. The script unfolds the story of a family and an elderly couple, Ethel and Norman Thayer who spend each summer at their house on Golden Pond. The play gained fame when it was produced into an Oscar award-winning movie starring Henry Fonda and his daughter Jane Fonda in 1981.

"We wanted to do one that everyone can identify with and probably everyone has seen the movie," Keith Reed, director of Rosemount's Front Porch Players, said. "The relationship between Norman and Ethel is a very neat story and I think we have a really good cast because Norman and Ethel just click together."

Norman is played by Jim Schiffman and his wife Ethel is played by Robin Gilmer.

This script unfolds a family's story troubles, misunderstandings, forgiveness and healing.

The grandson Billy Junior is played by Josh Liggett, 14, a Rosemount Middle School student.

"We came across him (Josh) when doing the auditions and he was in a big room at a Christmas party for the Fellowship for Christian Athletes," Reed said. "The relationship he builds with Norman over the months he stays with them while his dad is in Europe is great to see because the two of them get along really, really well."

Norman and his daughter Chelsea have been at odds for years and have gone nearly a decade without seeing each other until this summer on Golden Pond.

"This is another pretty touching thing that happens is the two of them coming together after years," Reed said. "They start talking again and so it is a story of healing as well."

Reed said the cast has shown solidarity and dedication by running lines together on the phone in the past few days when the weather prevented them from being together for a traditional rehearsal.

The play's stage manager is Rebecca Groshong and John Loch has put together the set design. RAAC President Jeanne Schwartz has worked to coordinate all the stage props and Dina O'Sullivan has invested in the play's costuming.

The Front Porch Players cast will perform six shows at The Rosemount Steeple Center, 14375 S. Robert Trail. Advanced ticket reservation is encouraged.
