Two incumbents and eight challengers filed for election to one of three open seats on the District 833 School Board.

Ron Kath and Heather Hirsch each are seeking another four-year term. Also on the ballot are Cottage Grove residents Dwayne Brauch, Pauline Ho and Kevin Haskins, Afton resident Louise Hinz, and Woodbury residents Simi Patnaik, Keith Collier, Melinda Dols and Cecilia Domingos.

A third incumbent, Michelle Witte, won't seek re-election, a District 833 spokesperson said.

In addition to serving on the School Board, Witte was instrumental in generating support for a $96 million bond measure that voters narrowly approved in 2016. The money helped fund the construction of the new Oltman Middle School.

Witte is executive director of the League of Women Voters Minnesota.

The filing deadline was Aug. 13. Aspirants were required to file an affidavit of candidacy with the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State.

The League of Women Voters will sponsor a school board candidate forum Monday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at the District 833 Service Center in Cottage Grove.

Election Day is Nov. 5. Information on early or absentee voting and poll locations is available at the Minnesota Secretary of State website.
