Campers from as far back as 35 years ago will be in attendance June 12 to 14 for centennial celebrations of Camp St. Croix, located in the town of Troy since 1909.
A schedule of events that begins with dinner on Friday evening, June 12 and runs through Sunday morning, June 14, is expected to draw campers, instructors and counselors from many decades.
From performances by a 1950s musical camp group to the dining hall dedication, the public and guests have been invited - RSVPs are required. While organizers are bracing for 300 to 400 participants, they want to acknowledge the long history of the camp.
In 1909, early YMCA campers and leaders sold "shares" enough to acquire the first 15-acre parcel.
By 2009, the camp had grown to nearly 400 acres.
Now, 100 years later, camp staff are celebrating the milestone birthday.
Camp St. Croix offers overnight and day programs every month of the year to over 23,000 youth and adult leaders annually.
