St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Vermillion and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School in Hastings participated in the annual marathon for nonpublic education event. Each principal challenged the students to raise a certain amount of money for their school and both schools surpassed their goal.

Mike Strommen, principal of St. John's, challenged his students to raise $24,000. If they reached that goal, he was going to run about 28 miles through the surrounding communities where many of the students live. The students and teachers raised $27,011 and Strommen ran a route through Vermillion, Miesville, New Trier and Hampton.

Tim Sullivan, principal of SEAS, challenged his students to raise $44,000. If they succeeded, he agreed to dress as the superhero of their choice during the annual marathon walk around the neighborhood that the school participates in. The students raised $49,490 and Sullivan dressed up in a custom made Captain Underpants costume.
