Hudson Relay For Life participants Connie Fisk, Sheri Yonash and Karen Humphrey were invited to participate in the first American Cancer Society Midwest Region Joint Leadership Summit Oct. 23 and 24.
Participants from four states in the Midwest region (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota) were invited to Minnesota to the joint leadership event. Relay committee leaders and honored attendees were invited.
Humphrey was invited as a member of the Midwest Board of Directors. Fisk and Yonash, from the "Bethel Lights For The Cure Team," were honored for being a team that has earned over $20,000. Awards were presented to more than 30 teams able to achieve the Diamond Team level of over $20,000.
During the conference attendees heard from Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Stillwater native, who started Relay For Life 25 years ago in Tacoma, Wash. where he still lives and practices medicine.
The conference featured speakers from the ACS on several topics. Among them were vital cancer research statistics, acknowledging the 44 Nobel Prize winning researchers sponsored by ACS, Advocacy for ACS in its separate Advocacy program American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) and fundraising efforts throughout the Midwest and beyond. Breakout sessions included leadership for Relays and fundraising inventiveness.
