BOSTON - Madison golfer Steve Stricker dropped one place to third in the Fed-Ex Cup point standings. That's after he finished ninth in the second playoff tournament, the Deutsche Bank Championship at Boston.
Stricker shot an even-par 71 in his final round on Labor Day, and he went 13-under for the tournament at 271. Charley Hoffman won the Deutsche by five strokes over Geoff Ogilvy. Hoffman earned 2,500 Fed-Ex points to move past Stricker into second place in the standings. Matt Kuchar, who won The Barclays the previous week, remains in first. Stricker has 2,972 points, Hoffman 3,259, and Kuchar 4,235 going into this week's third playoff tournament, the BMW Championship near Chicago.
Appleton native J.P. Hayes was eliminated after he missed the cut on Saturday. He dropped to 83rd in the point standings. The Top-70 remain in contention for the Fed-Ex title and the $10-million first prize.
