The 26-year old woman who resigned as Miss Wisconsin USA says she acknowledges her mistakes and will resolve the charges against her this summer.
Shaletta Porterfield won the Miss Wisconsin USA title last year and would have competed in Las Vegas next month. She resigned Friday. Porterfield has been charged in Dane County with three counts of misappropriating identity information to obtain money.
She has pleaded not guilty. Her attorney says he doesn't believe Porterfield actually gained any money for her actions that are being questioned. He says she resigned to avoid embarrassing the pageant.
First runnerup Jordan Marie Morkin of Green Bay will now represent the state of Wisconsin.
