You'll find Ellsworth High School head volleyball coach Tanya Powers holding the same view towards Homecoming as many football coaches do.

"I don't like it," Powers said. "because it's hard to keep focus through the whole week, especially for the upper classmen. They want to enjoy the whole week and sometimes it keeps them out too late for an event or worried about other events like powder puff football rather than the match at hand."

This is particularly true as the Panthers still are in a title chase with Baldwin-Woodville in the Middle Border Conference. The Panthers are just a game behind the Blackhawks in the standings and face an important match with Osceola tonight.

But with the match at home and considered the volleyball team's own Homecoming match, Powers also sees the advantage of having such a match at such a time.

"I can't wait to feel the energy in the gym tonight," Powers said. "We'll have a great crowd and I hope more will come out and watch us play. Homecoming will really add to the atmosphere and hopefully boost us to a win."

Ellsworth hopes to win and hope for a Somerset win over Baldwin-Woodville at B-W this evening. Also in the MBC, Prescott is at Durand.

Dunn-St. Croix matches with a local angle this evening include Spring Valley at Elmwood and St. Croix Central at Plum City.
