The River Falls-based Kinnickinnic River Land Trust board this week picked Nelson T. French as the group's new executive director.

"We are pleased to have someone with Nelson's skills and abilities join our organization," KRLT board president Jack Kenefick said. "He's a proven leader with over 28 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and management, government affairs, public policy development, community-based partnership development and watershed protection efforts."

For the past five years French worked as director of legislative affairs at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. He was responsible for MPCA's overall direction, leadership and management of the agency's legislative affairs.

Before that the Duluth, Minn.-born French was executive director of Friends of the Minnesota Valley. There he worked with businesses, government and private individuals to create innovative conservation strategies and partnerships.

Nelson has lived in Richfield, Minn., for 25 years. He is married and has one son.

KRLT, founded in 1993, is a local land trust that preserves the natural resources and scenic beauty of the Kinnickinnic River. For more information about KRLT, go to or call 425-5738.
