Mary L. Giefer, age 87, formerly of Ellsworth, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2008, at the Kinnic Long Term Care Center in River Falls.

Mary was born on March 6, 1921, the daughter of Michael and Barbara (Gores) Muellenmeister.

She grew up in Faribault, Minn., and graduated from Bethlehem Academy. She was united in marriage to Eugene C. Giefer on July 1, 1941.

After moving to Ellsworth, Mary enjoyed being a mother and housewife, and later in life worked at various local businesses.

Mary lived her life attending to the needs of others with her cooking, flowers and visiting. She enjoyed her many friends, gardening, playing cards and time spent with her family.

Mary is survived by her children: Charles Giefer of Ellsworth, Joseph Giefer and his wife Karey Cooperrider Giefer of Juneau, Alaska, Barbara Ickler and her husband Robert of Roberts, Mary Jean Cernohous and her husband Leonard of River Falls, and Richard Giefer and his fiancée Renee Ballantine of Forest Lake, Minn.; grandchildren: Eric (Jess) Giefer, Kara Giefer, Adam (Kristin) Cernohous, Ben (Sarah) Cernohous, Tim and his fiancé Jill Beuke, Robert Ickler Jr., Julie Ickler, and Christine Giefer; great-grandchildren: Rose and Lily Giefer; siblings: Donald Muellenmeister and Sister Margaret Muellenmeister.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; daughter, Marjorie Giefer; and siblings: Paul Muellenmeister, Florence Kressin and Helen Osypowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, March 28, at St. Bridget Catholic Church. Interment will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Ellsworth.
