Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Connie Foster is ready to take charge of UW-River Falls after Chancellor Don Betz leaves at the end of this month.

Foster will step into Betz's office as interim chancellor until the university finds a replacement, which could be as soon as February 2009.

Foster seems comfortable with her new responsibility.

"Some of it will be new, but I don't think it's going to be a surprise," she said.

Foster approaches the position as a caretaker, not an owner.

"Because we are in a transition period I see it as continuing the work done under Betz," she said.

For the duration of her time leading the university, Betz said he is sure she will leave her mark in a good way.

"I personally value Connie and the time we had to work together," he said. "She and the UW-RF leadership team will serve the institution and the community with distinction."
