A man who claimed to have a bomb when he held police at bay at the Pewaukee City Hall is now in the Waukesha County Jail.

Acting Police Chief Dan Meister says he's not sure why the 26-year-old Pewaukee area man did it.

A police employee found a note on a public restroom floor about 9:30 a.m. Monday, saying there was a man with a bomb in one of the stalls.

City offices were evacuated and SWAT team officers negotiated with the man for more than two hours before he gave up.

Meister said it was a tense moment, because officers were still not sure if he was wearing a real explosive device when they took him into custody.

The Milwaukee County Bomb Squad later determined it was not a live device.

The Pewaukee City Hall is in a relatively isolated part of town. It serves about 12,000 residents.
