River Falls Youth Wrestling plans a number of events as it begins its 2008-09 program, including a Kickoff Weekend this weekend.
The festivities begin with a tailgate party in the Ramer Field Parking lot at 6 p.m. before the Wildcat football game against Rice Lake Friday. Coaches and members of the booster club will be on hand and hot dogs and brats will be served to all those associated with the program.
Saturday, from 2-4 p.m., a Youth Wrestling Clinic will be held in the high school wrestling room. Wildcat assistant coach Brady Cudd and members of the high school team will introduce kindergartners through eighth-graders to movement, skills, games and more. The clinic is open to wrestlers of all levels and the cost is $10 per youth. Bring a friend that hasn't wrestled in the past and each youth can get in for $5 each.
Sunday at Hoffman Park, all youth wrestlers, parents, alumni, booster club members and coaches are invited to a morning fun run consisting of two laps around the Hoffman Park hill. The event is free and begins at 9 a.m. in the parking lot.
Registration for the pre-kindergarten through fifth grade program is now open through Dec. 1. Sessions will be held Mondays and Thursday nights from 6-8 p.m. in the high school wrestling room from Dec. 8 through March 5.
Cost is $45 each with additional family members costing $10 more each. The program consists of skill instruction, conditioning, and wrestling-themed games.
Registration forms are available at local schools and the Parks and Recreation Department.
