A military helicopter landed at Meyer Middle School around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday as the Minnesota Air National Guard Counter Narcotics Task Force, Drug Reduction Division, arrived with personnel aboard to visit with the students and deliver a no-drugs message. Former River Falls student Derrick Schmitt, son of Mary Watters and now a 1st Sergeant, coordinated the visit to take place during Red Ribbon week. Accompanying Schmitt was two DEA agents, retired World Cup Soccer Player Tony Sanneh, and the Goldilocks Band. MMS Counselor Gary Campbell said Red Ribbon week is nationally recognized each year and promotes positive ideals for kids, like how to stay drug free. The helicopter was also scheduled to visit schools in Hudson and Prescott.
