The St. Croix County Recycling Program will hold separate events for collection of hazardous waste and appliances that are open to all county residents, but has changed the way the events are being promoted throughout the county due to a reduction in grant funding from the state.

The "Your Wasteline" newsletter will not be direct mailed to all mailboxes in the county, but a mini "Your Wasteline" flyer has been produced and will be distributed in all weekly newspapers in the county, posted in public places and promoted on the Web. Two types of collections, household hazardous waste and appliances, will be held in separate locations the third weekend in September. The Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep is 1-4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the County Highway Shop, 666 Hwy. 12E, Hudson.

Households and farms with up to 500 pounds of waste, are fee-exempt. Latex paint and used oil will not be accepted. Fluorescent bulbs and oil filters will be accepted for a fee. A special collection for small businesses (those generating no more than 200 pounds of waste per month) will take place on the morning of Friday, Sept. 16 by appointment only.

Businesses are encouraged to take part, but will be charged based on the type and weight of material.

Farms and businesses must pre-register by Sept. 13 by calling 715-386-4675.

The county appliance collection will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, at two sites: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Glenwood City Recycling Center and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Town of Richmond Recycling Center.

Prices are $11 for most appliances, $16 for air conditioners and water softeners.
